One of the questions I get asked the most is “What’s it like working with BOTDF?”
Here’s my answer:
Being with Blood On the Dance Floor is the adventure of a lifetime. It was quite the transition going from a classical concert violinist to a touring musician working with BOTDF- some of the most creative minds in the industry & all the other creative & talented musicians that have toured with us.Truth is, I’ve been playing in bands since I was a teenager and I’ve played in many bands ranging from Death Metal, Folk, Country, Bluegrass, to Gospel groups- it was kinda a way to express my alternate musical style which was very opposite from performing Bach & Mozart as a soloist. But I can say that all those experiences with other bands pale in comparison to playing with Blood.
BOTDF is like a family- we work hard, play hard, love each other, defend each other, drive each other crazy- lots of people look at music as not only an art, but a business- and it definitely is both, but with BOTDF there is something greater than that binding us together, there is a connection of trust and friendship that meshes us together that makes writing a performing with each other electric- there’s this energy, a congruency that I’ve yet to find with anyone else I’ve performed with- and I believe that is what makes our music & live shows so charged- everyone that see us can feel it too.
Another dynamic that makes working with Blood so incredible is the passion & gratitude. Every member of BOTDF is completely fueled by passion for what we do- passion for music, passion for art, passion for creating, passion for people, passion for making a difference. And the amount of Gratitude I have heard them express- being grateful for opportunity, for friends, for fans, gratitude for all the people who love and support us… even behind closed doors I witness the gratitude each member has for being able to write & perform music for the people they love and who love them- I’ve heard it all firsthand & it’s for real.
On a personal note- I love being in Blood On The Dance Floor. Dahvie & Jayy allow me the creative freedom to write my own music to theirs, we collaborate & experiment with different ideas and write together as if we were born to do exactly that and credit me for my input. They love to hear me play my classical songs on the violin (which I love!), they encourage me to pursue my dreams, and are involved in my life on a personal level as well- so to say it’s about business being with BOTDF is a ridiculous statement- it’s about so much more! SO there it is- playing with Blood is a world of Fun, Music, Family, Creativity, Love, Passion, Craziness, Gratitude & Freedom to be whoever you want to be. <3
